Washington Business Journal: Consero Group expands to digital forums

Bethesda-based professional conference facilitator Consero Group LLC has begun offering Web-based forums, three years after striking success in high-end, in-person professional conferences.

Consero will host a “virtual government IT forum” on June 12, bringing together executives nominated by their peers for their outstanding leadership and accomplishments. They will engage in a discussion about current issues in a video chat that customers can view online.

The virtual conferences are a new, less cost-intensive addition to Consero’s 2013 agenda of 22 in-person events, a slate that’s grown from a single event in 2010.

Founder and CEO Paul Mandell, a former associate at law firm Arnold & Porter LLP, said Consero is on track to post $6 million in revenue this year, up from $400,000 in 2010.

After focusing on the legal profession initially, Consero has expanded into seminars for executives in human resources, state and local government information technology, finance and other other fields.

Mandell said demand for the company’s product — invitation-only, strictly screened professional conferences — is robust, and he is not soliciting venture capital or other investors while building the company.

“We believe very firmly in our mission, which is essentially to save executives from bad events,” Mandell said.
