Findings will be released at Consero’s General Counsel Forum, taking place June 12-14 in Newport Beach, CA.

Bethesda, MD (Mar. 14, 2016) – The Asia Pacific region is considered to pose the greatest legal risk to business by the largest proportion of General Counsel (20%), according to a new survey by Consero Group, an international leader in creating high-level, invitation-only events for senior executives. Reported as part of the Global General Counsel Data Survey, compiled by Consero Group in partnership with AegisAdvantage, these results will be revealed and discussed at Consero’s upcoming General Counsel Forum, taking place June 12-14 in Newport Beach, California.

The Asia Pacific region was named the region posing the greatest legal risk by 20 percent of General Counsel, followed by North America at 15 percent and Africa and the Middle East at 12 percent each.

“An increasingly global and technology-driven corporate environment exposes companies to various risks of which GCs must remain aware, and which they must be prepared to handle,” said Paul Mandell, Founder & CEO of Consero Group. “Organizations in the United States and Europe may want to focus on identifying trustworthy local partners to help navigate high-risk regions, to minimize business disruption.”

“We are pleased to partner with Consero for the Global General Counsel Data Survey,” said James Ewing, CEO of AegisAdvantage. “These findings provide valuable insight for General Counsel as they position their departments to effectively minimize risks and to deliver maximum value.”

Additional findings from the Global General Counsel Data Survey included:

  • Plurality Do Not Have a GRC Framework in Place: Thirty-nine percent of GCs have reported not having a governance, risk and compliance system.
  • Compliance Committee Not a Part of Most Compliance Programs: Only 43 percent of General Counsel listed a compliance committee as a part of their current compliance program.
  • Regulations/Legislation Top Area of Risk: The greatest proportion of legal execs (37%) named regulations and legislation as the top areas of risk for the next year.

“These new findings will be released at the General Counsel Forum, along with other key survey results from General Counsel,” said Jessica Druckman, Founder & SVP of Program Development at Consero. “During the event, we will explore top-of-mind subjects, including defending against data-privacy risk, procuring insurance coverage for data-security purposes and teaching in-house lawyers how to manage legal risk efficiently.”

Consero’s General Counsel Forum will take place June 12-14 at the Island Hotel in Newport Beach, California. The Forum will address current legal and business challenges faced by today’s General Counsel, providing a unique opportunity to share best practices and strategies that will help lead their departments and companies in the right direction.
