Corporate Counsel: Structuring Compliance to Get a Seat at the Table

What’s the best way to get compliance a seat at the big business table? At least one compliance chief does it by structuring her staff around her company’s three business divisions while still keeping the compliance program centralized and reporting to her.

“Having a centralized compliance program is good from a governance perspective,” attorney Suzanne Webb Sainato, chief audit and compliance officer at Symetra Financial Corp., told “But it is also good to have each leader of a key business area have dedicated compliance staff within their departments. That helps drive us to the table.”
