As companies face intensifying regulatory hurdles and constrained budgets, C-suite executives are turning to their compliance departments to keep companies moving forward efficiently while mitigating risk and promoting ethical behavior. Today’s compliance department must navigate the company into new and emerging markets, steering clear of ethical dilemmas, while ensuring transparency and accountability. The Chief Compliance Officer is charged with leading this team and plays a major role in ensuring safe and sustainable company growth, both domestically and globally. The Chief Compliance Officer’s role has never been more important.

Survey Structure And Methodology

Consero’s 2013 U.S. Corporate Compliance & Ethics Forum Survey
included a total of 15 questions in the following areas:

  • Department Demographics and Budget
  • Structure and Organizational Leadership
  • Compliance Training
  • Department Effectiveness and Performance

The questions were posed to all Fortune 1000 Chief Compliance Officers in attendance at Consero’s invitation-only April 2013 Forum, which targeted CCOs based in the western half of the United States. A total of 54 responses were provided, yielding data that appears with brief analysis on the pages that follow.
